It’s never the wrong time to remember. So much of what we do at FolkNRoots is about getting new music out there for people to hear, but we also try to keep on playing some of the older music too. Here’s five, from over the years.

Chris Stapleton, from two years ago, at an ASCAP songwriter circle, doing an old Steel Drivers tune that Adele covered.

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings doing a Stephen Fearing tune at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, featuring Colin Linden on the killer mandolin solo. This is from back when they were promoting the album South, heavily. There’s a new Blackie disc coming this year, I’m told.

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, covering Kris Kristofferson from back when they were touring the Old Yellow Moon record. This is, quite simply, a killer performance of a killer song.

Ben Bullington, calling out the country music establishment, along with Darrell Scott, Rodney Crowell and Will Kimbrough, back before he left us for good. Ben’s story is unique, and the world is richer for having his songs.

And because we just lost Merle, here he is at Farm Aid, back in the day.

Some of these artists are still with us, and some have moved on, but the records are all still out there for our listening pleasure.
