The Roots of Roots Music – Stanley, Louvin, Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs

June 29, 2016 | By

This past week Ralph Stanley left this world.

He was, without doubt, one of the prime influences in 20th Century country music. So here are a few clips of Ralph and some of the other prime movers, shakers and music makers, back in the day.

The Stanley Brothers – Worried Man Blues

This is from a TV show hosted by Pete Seeger, and that’s Pete sitting there, hanging on every note.

The Louvin Brothers – I Don’t Believe You’ve Met My Baby

Another one from a TV show. Quality home entertainment.

Flatt and Scruggs – Foggy Mountain Breakdown

This one comes from the Grand Ol’ Opry back in ’65. If you’re around my age, you might remember seeing these guys on the Beverly Hillbillies from time to time. They did write the theme song, after all.

Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Boys – I’m Working On A Building

The man who pretty much invented bluegrass music, and sent it on the road to today when it is doing nothing but growing and evolving and enriching lives.
